Drama education is not (only) about theatre performance; it is to use role play as a tool for all possible circumstances. As a tool for learning, playing amd so on.
Ut drama is also a subject and art in itself.
One can make a difference between
Play: free, without purpose, without guidance, in reciprocial ways
Role play: free, without guidance, but often (unconsciously) with the purpose to explore, underdtand and habdle problems
Drama: process with guidance amd with purpose, but without focusing on the product of a performance
Theatre: product of performing in front of audience, in a life event, letting the fictious world of the play meet the everyday life of the audience
Examples for drama education:
1 Process drama
2 Drama as tool to teach and learn, ro explore for all subjects
3 Drama as devising a new play together
The core is improvisation
Understanding how to cooperate, not blocking
Understanding how to create a scene
Exploring time, space, costumes, habitus, gestures, scenery, narratives as artistic and poltical intersectional units
Exploring the difference and interplay between a fictive scene and our everyday life
Neeland says: drama education is about
1 Empathy
2 Togetherness
3 Agency
4 Humanity
